Esercizi Rudimentali is a listening device introduced by informal performances, spatial practices
and exercises dedicated to the relationship between sound, space and body.
It addresses anyone interested in using the body as a tool for listening, searching and extending
the perception and motion capacities while relating to sound and space. Through simple
experiences of listening and action, the participant is placed in a condition of openness and
interchange with the ambient and its surroundings; the vitality of sound initially allows to activate a
habitability of the space that, in flux, is defined by the performer’s movement.
Esercizi Rudimentali consists of active listening exercises that are meant, through observation,
to investigate the relationship between the performer and the acoustic phenomena, the production
of sound and the structure of the body as a function of sound, while returning mobility and intensity
to the experience itself so as to improve the participants’ attentive structure and broaden their
listening methods.
Enrico Malatesta, Percussionist. Dedicated to experimental research areas among music,
performance and site-specific actions; his practice explores the relationship between sound, space
and movement with particular attention to listening methods, affordances of instruments and
polyrhythm, intended as a definition of multiple information through an ecological and sustainable
approach to percussion play.
